Are you teaching virtually or preparing to teach virtually? You are probably not sure of how you can model instruction without your smart-board and document camera for part of your instruction. Well, I’ve got you covered! You can create your own document camera using your computer and cell phone (or tablet) in just minutes!
I am going to share with you the simple steps to use your cell phone (or tablet) along with your computer to create an at home document camera to use in your virtual instruction!
(Before we go any further, I am not an affiliate or do I make any money from this. To make this magic happen, I purchased the program for $11. You can google and search for free programs, that may be similar. Just here to help other teachers out in showing how I solved my own problem during E-Learning.)
Steps to Follow:
The software I used is called Mirroring360.
- ***I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DO THIS FIRST*** See the video HERE and scroll down to see all the devices it will work on. Review the information provided on this page. By doing this, it will make the process easier for you to implement on your devices.
- Find the USB cord your cell phone came with (check the box). You will need to plug your cellphone into your computer.
- Find a stand (tripod, selfie-stick rigged up, clamp). Be creative in anyway to elevate your phone or tablet.
- Purchase and download the software onto your computer.
- Install the software and follow the directions. You will receive a license #, you will need to use the license # in your setup process.
- After you have everything installed, below are sample images of how to mirror your phone onto your computer (I have an iPhone, I swipe from the top right corner to the bottom left corner like I want to use my flashlight).
- Use a free video recording software, like Screencast-o-Matic, Loom or Zoom to record your lesson with your voice talking, and/or yourself showing, while “working under a document camera”.
Below is an image of the Clip Clamp cell phone stand I use. I find for the price, it does a good job and my favorite part is how easy it is to adjust it as needed. Click HERE or on the image below.
I hope you have found this information helpful! I am really happy with how it turned out and how easy it is to use while virtually teaching!
