Hey Friends~
I’m back again on the 2nd of the month with my friends Angie from Lucky Little Learners & Ashley from Schroeder Shenanigans! I LOVE this brand new link up with them & I hope you are excited as well!
This month we are talking about Parent Communication. There are so many great ways to connect to parents as classroom teachers. More ways now than when I was a homeroom teacher. I only had my school website, student planner & monthly newsletter. WOW, how technology has changed that! But, the bottom line is still you can’t always reach everyone depending on what type of school your community is in. Just keep trying & documenting attempts. I’m going to let the homeroom teachers tell you about what they do.
I’m going to talk about one thing I do as a Literacy Coach just to help out. I started a parent communication board in our front office. To my surprise I’m continuously refilling this thing! In fact, my secretary is having to remind me it goes so fast. This was not my idea by any means, Pinterest! I saw a teacher use it for open house, so I just shifted it a little to fit my purpose.
Here’s how mine turned out [Sorry in advance for the lovely camera photos! Ugg!]…
- Found some extra letters & border in my supply bin along with clear pockets.
- Used my 40% off coupon at Michael’s to purchase the black tri-fold.
- Bought expanding colored folders at Walmart.
- I went into my files to search for some of my favorite saved parent informational sheets from some AMAZING teacher bloggers.
- I asked my Instructional Coach, Technology Coach & Administration if there was anything specific they would want to add.
- I made simple, clean, easy to read covers for the folders.
- I made copies of each informational parent sheet.
- Attached everything with hot glue & I was done!
